Author: Meghna Pant
This is one-of-a-kind story that I have ever read. This story depicts modern Indian marriages. If you are unmarried and looking for NRI alliances, you will be scared of NRI alliances after reading this.
The author perfectly depicts how a woman is abused, both emotionally and physically, in an abusive marriage.

Maneka was manipulated to marry Suneet in the name of love. A few days prior to the marriage, when her fiancée physically abused her, she contemplated saying no. However, considering her parents’ investment in the marriage for her, her will shook, and she stayed silent. She stayed silent then. From then on, she always stayed silent. She was made to believe she was wrong. she is the bad one.
Finally… when she couldn’t hold it anymore, she decided to divorce him.
This book tells all the females worldwide… don’t hold back for anyone else. Speak up. Fight up. Be strong. Keep the courage. We are all together in this.
The whole book consists of suicide and abuse both mentally and physically. Even as a reader, you will feel the torture.
The author did a good job of making the reader so driven into the story. You will feel like you are Maneka.
As I read, this story resembled many of the stories of women I have heard in the news who were abused abroad and couldn’t return.
This book perfectly shows the twisted beliefs of ‘Raja Beta’ and women being confined to the service of in-laws and their husbands.
Finally, I would put this book in the category of feminism. This is perfect for a one-time-read.
My Rating: 7/10
